FRESH GEAR

Some photos of my outfit from Zac Fresh's collection for Palomar College's MODA fashion show. There were some good designs but Zac lead the theme ("Xtreme") of the show full force. This being his final show for MODA was only the prelude to his label, Zed Threads. I'm a vintage lover so when I realized that I would be wearing reconstructed, recycled, recategorized camouflage accesssorized with a handmade backpack with a gas mask, a knife strapped to my thigh and combat boots, I was apocalypse ready. What I also loved about the whole entire collection is that it was not gender-based, everything was 100% unisex. Therefore, Grace Jones was called upon for androgynous inspiration. Who better as a muse with the extreme makeup that accompanied these divine looks. Zac was the headliner with one of his looks, my personal favorite from the collection, on the cover of the magazine that accompanied the fashion show. His insanity reminds of McQueen, Gaultier and Galliano. Look at the rest of his collection  and check out and like the Zed Threads page here. All runway photos [below] courtesy of Zachary's brother, Sean Fresh.

THE CHUNK OF IT ALL

thrifted jacket
Dr. Martens platform boots
bag from H&M

Backpack ridiculously too tiny + jacket ridiculously too humongous = wtf was I thinking? Besides the fact that I get bored and love too experiment with different formulas of random, unconventional ways of wearing shit. Slim it down half way keeping the material the same texture to validate some type of sanity and then chunk it out at the bottom to balance out the chunk on top. Yeah..fashion nerd for sure and utterly for life....

HESH MESH

photos by me

Just in: I finally bought a fresh new pair of sneakers!  Vans...nope. Chucks...napes. Generic Surplus' mesh sneakers. Finally a low key, low top with just the right detail to make me feel chic when I actually feel like blending in just slightly more with the unfussy dress code of North County San Diego. Yay to basic, beachy and classic shoes [with a slight twist]! Paying attention to detail is a fun sport. And to think that I declared that I would not buy shoes with laces for a long time once I started noticing that I have a perverse preference for shoes that keep my feet harnessed, strapped and buckled. I bought them on pure excitement-induced impulse at Grandeur in Oceanside of the 101 and felt utterly great about blowing potentially-much-needed-for more-important-crap-money on them. The simple fact that it has actually been a goal of mine to one day walk into, discover and purchase the perfect pair of kicks from Grandeur, but never could quite find what i felt was me until now....and the fact that I didn't buy them in a color always worth spending on when it comes to shoes especially: BLACK, proves that this beautiful pearly opal color will have a chance proving itself as a staple neutral to the completion of many casual outfits. I'm obsessed with mesh and basically my beloved lived in Phillip Lim sandals inspired me to start collecting shoes that are not completely there with the appearance that they are still pending/loading/buffering/whatever. These shoes are the pair that mostly cover up my as of lately, ubiquitous scantily clad feet.

HEMP AND RICE

thrifted hemp shirt

More from summer preview. I cannot wait to reside in this outfit with ease 24/7. This week is suppose to pick up speed on sunshine after a depressingly rainy weekend so i will have to wear again...with lots and lots of gold! I say that now but I will more likely be minimal about the gold jewelry. I found this hemp beauty at the DAV veterans thrift department store in Oceanside. I love the cut, the material, and the detailed stitching of the word "IRIE" in place of what could have potentially been a a pocket on the chest. Paired with my favorite "pj" shorts and sandals that still go hard to this day from Phillip Lim's 2008 spring collection. Right now: tired, antsy for the week ahead, rice, Real Housewives of Atlanta and online window shopping.
